It is a nocturnal animal that spends most daylight hours underground in a badger burrow. It does not go into the winter den, but can remain in the badger burrow for up to several days in periods of heavy snow.

The badger lives in deciduous and mixed forest or in thickets, where it has its burrow. It feeds on caterpillars, beetles, small rodents, amphibians, grains, berries, earthworms and fruits, which it finds in open areas and in clearings.
